THE COVE
Logline: Forced to return to her island home after the murder of her estranged father, a marine biologist soon discovers his death might just be one part of a much larger conspiracy seeking to destroy her family and their people.
Mary Cecilia fostered her love for the magic of storytelling growing up on the island of Barbados, its vibrant culture underlining everything she creates. Originally moving to New York City to obtain her BFA in Drama from NYU Tisch, she is now securing her MFA in Film from Columbia University. She is a proud alumnus of Columbia's Kurt P. Tauber Scholarship, the Bobby Kashif Cox Memorial Screenwriting Scholarship, the Foreign Hollywood Press Association Scholarship, the Diverso Fellowship, and the London-based Royal Court’s Carribean Writing for Performance Fellowship.
An actress turned producer turned writer-director, Mary Cecilia thrives when weaving tales of surreal drama led by complex female characters of colour who dare to dream of something better. Her most recent film, The Roads We Travel, won Best Student Director at the Barbados Independent Film Festival and continues to be selected for festivals around the world, including the Caribbean Film Festival in Trinidad and the CaribbeanTales International Film Festival in Canada.
